First mentioned in the Bible
"When they came up out of the water, Jehovah's spirit carried Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him anymore, but he kept going on his way rejoicing. Philip, however, was found in Azotus, and he went through the territory, declaring the good news to all the cities until he got to Caesarea."— Acts 8:39-40
Background
Azotus was the Greek name for Old Testament Ashdod. After Philip immersed the Ethiopian eunuch, Jehovah's spirit carried him to Azotus. From there he preached along the coast through all the towns until he reached Caesarea.
