One of the seven churches in Revelation; rebuked for being lukewarm.
First mentioned in the Bible
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of my mouth.”— Revelation 3:15-16
Background
Laodicea was a wealthy city in Asia Minor. In Revelation, Jesus sharply rebuked its congregation for being 'lukewarm'—neither cold nor hot. The congregation thought itself rich but was spiritually 'miserable, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked' (Revelation 3:14-22).
