Antioch

Antioch · Antakya, Türkiye
Base of the Gentile mission, where disciples were first called "Christians."
First mentioned in the Bible
After he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year they assembled with them in the congregation and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.— Acts 11:26
Background
Antioch in Syria was the third city of the Roman Empire. After Stephen's martyrdom, scattered disciples preached here to the Greeks and the congregation flourished. Barnabas and Paul labored here together for a year, and the disciples were first called Christians at Antioch. All three of Paul's missionary journeys set out from this city.
