One of the seven churches in Revelation; called 'where Satan's throne is.'
First mentioned in the Bible
“I know where you are dwelling—where the throne of Satan is—and yet you keep holding fast to my name, and you did not deny your faith in me.”— Revelation 2:13
Background
Pergamum was an important city in Asia Minor. In Revelation, Jesus called it 'where Satan's throne is'—possibly referring to emperor worship or the great altar of Zeus. The faithful witness Antipas was martyred here. Jesus urged the congregation to repent (Revelation 2:12-17).
