Background
Thessalonica was the capital of Macedonia. During his second missionary journey, Paul reasoned in the synagogue for three Sabbaths, proving Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead. Many believed but unbelieving Jews caused an uproar, forcing Paul to leave by night. He later wrote two epistles encouraging this congregation about the hope of Christ's return.
