Where the prophet Ezekiel saw the vision of God's glory by this river.
First mentioned in the Bible
“In the thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was among the exiled people by the river Chebar, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God.”— Ezekiel 1:1
Background
The Chebar River was a canal in Babylonian territory where exiled Jews settled. The prophet Ezekiel saw one of the most spectacular visions in the Bible by this river: the heavens opened, and he saw four living creatures each with four faces and four wings, wheels within wheels beside them, and above them a throne with a figure like a man surrounded by rainbow-like radiance—the glory of Jehovah (Ezekiel 1). Ezekiel was called to be a watchman for the house of Israel.
