Corinth

Corinth · Ruins of ancient Corinth, Greece
The bustling port where Paul stayed a year and a half planting the congregation.
First mentioned in the Bible
Moreover, the Lord said to Paul in a vision by night: “Do not be afraid, but keep on speaking and do not keep silent, for I am with you and no man will assault you to harm you; for I have many people in this city.”— Acts 18:9-10
Background
Corinth commanded the isthmus between two seas — a city of merchants and notorious morals. Here Paul worked as a tentmaker alongside Aquila and Priscilla, and the Lord encouraged him in a vision: "Be not afraid, but speak." He remained a year and six months, planting a thriving yet troubled congregation to which he later wrote First and Second Corinthians.
