Where the apostle John was exiled and received the visions of Revelation.
First mentioned in the Bible
I John, your brother and a sharer with you in the tribulation and kingdom and endurance in association with Jesus, was on the island called Patʹmos for speaking about God and bearing witness concerning Jesus.— Revelation 1:9
Background
Patmos is a small island in the southeastern Aegean Sea, used as exile during the Roman Empire. The apostle John was banished here for his testimony of Jesus. On the Lord's Day he received visions of the seven churches, end-time judgment, and the new heaven and earth, writing Revelation. The 'Cave of the Apocalypse' is preserved on the island.
