Where Moses struck the rock for water; Israel defeated the Amalekites
First mentioned in the Bible
"Look! I will be standing before you there on the rock in Horeb. You must strike the rock, and water will come out of it, and the people will drink it."— Exodus 17:6
Background
Rephidim was a campsite of the Israelites after leaving Egypt and before reaching Mount Sinai. The people complained to Moses about no water, and Jehovah told Moses to strike the rock at Horeb with his staff, and water flowed out. Here the Amalekites attacked Israel; Joshua led the army while Moses held up his hands. As long as Moses' hands were raised, Israel prevailed. Aaron and Hur supported his hands until sunset, and Israel won decisively.
