Moses stretched out his rod, the waters parted, and Israel crossed on dry ground.
First mentioned in the Bible
Moses now stretched out his hand over the sea; and Jehovah drove the sea back with a strong east wind all night long, turning the sea basin into dry ground, and the waters divided. So the Israelites went through the midst of the sea on dry ground, while the waters formed a wall on their right hand and on their left.— Exodus 14:21-22
Background
Pharaoh's army pursued the Israelites out of Egypt and trapped them at the sea. When Moses stretched out his hand, the LORD drove back the sea all night with a strong east wind; the waters divided and the people crossed on dry ground. The pursuing Egyptians entered after them, the waters returned, and the whole host was destroyed — the greatest deliverance miracle of the Old Testament.
