Succoth

Succoth · Jordan Valley
Where Jacob built shelters after returning from Haran; Gideon passed through while pursuing the Midianites.
First mentioned in the Bible
"Jacob journeyed to Succoth and built a house for himself and made shelters for his livestock. That is why the place was named Succoth."— Genesis 33:17
Background
Succoth means 'shelters.' After Jacob reconciled with Esau, he came to this place east of the Jordan, built a house for himself and shelters for his livestock—hence the name. Later, Judge Gideon passed through Succoth while pursuing the Midianite kings, requesting food but being refused by the elders.
