Background
Tirzah was the capital of the first several kings of the northern kingdom of Israel. Jeroboam I, Baasha, and Elah ruled here. Omri moved the capital to Samaria. Tirzah was known for its beauty and is compared to a beautiful woman in the Song of Solomon. Zimri set fire to the palace here and died.
