Background
Ekron was the northernmost of the five major Philistine city-states. After capturing the Ark, the Philistines moved it from Ashdod to Gath, then to Ekron due to Jehovah's strikes. The people of Ekron cried out in terror when the Ark arrived. Finally the Philistines decided to return the Ark to Israel on a new cart (1 Samuel 5-6).
