The first Canaanite city taken by Joshua, whose walls fell flat.
First mentioned in the Bible
Then the people shouted when the horns were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the horn and shouted a great war cry, the wall fell down flat. After that the people went up into the city, each one straight ahead, and they captured the city.— Joshua 6:20
Background
Jericho, the "city of palm trees," is among the world's oldest cities. After crossing the Jordan, Israel circled the city seven days as Jehovah God commanded; on the seventh day, at the trumpets and the shout, the walls fell down flat. In the New Testament, Jesus healed blind Bartimaeus here and brought Zacchaeus the tax collector to repentance.
