The city of David and site of the temple; where Jesus suffered and rose again.
First mentioned in the Bible
Ask for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you, O city, will be secure.— Psalm 122:6
Background
Jerusalem is the geographic and spiritual center of the whole Bible. David took the Jebusite stronghold and made it his capital; Solomon built the temple on Mount Moriah. Burned by Babylon in 586 BC and later rebuilt, it was where Jesus was tried, impaled, and rose again; at Pentecost Jehovah's holy spirit descended here and the congregation was born.
