Background
The Gihon Spring was ancient Jerusalem's only natural water source. Solomon was anointed king here. Later, when Assyrian king Sennacherib threatened invasion, King Hezekiah carved a 533-meter underground tunnel to channel the spring's water into the Pool of Siloam inside the city, ensuring water supply during a siege.
