The Jebusite fortress captured by David; later a symbol of Jehovah's holy city
First mentioned in the Bible
"For Jehovah has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling."— Psalm 132:13
Background
Mount Zion was originally the Jebusite fortress that David captured and called 'the City of David.' The name later expanded to symbolize all of Jerusalem, representing Jehovah's dwelling place and his covenant with his people. The Psalms repeatedly praise Zion as Jehovah's chosen holy mountain.
