Beth-horon

Beth-horon · About 16 km northwest of Jerusalem
Strategic pass connecting the coastal plain to the central highlands; where Joshua pursued the Amorites.
First mentioned in the Bible
"As they were going down the descent of Beth-horon, Jehovah hurled great hailstones from heaven on them... More died from the hailstones than the Israelites killed with the sword."— Joshua 10:11
Background
Beth-horon consisted of Upper and Lower Beth-horon, on the main route from the coastal plain to Jerusalem. When Joshua pursued the five-king coalition, Jehovah hurled great hailstones from heaven on the descent of Beth-horon, killing more enemies than Israel's swords did. Solomon later rebuilt Beth-horon as a fortified city.
Related Scriptures (New World Translation)
While they were fleeing from Israel and were on the descent of Beth-hoʹron, Jehovah hurled great hailstones from the sky on them as far as A·zeʹkah, and they perished. In fact, more died from the hail than from the sword of the Israelites.— Joshua 10:11
