Bethphage

Bethphage · Eastern slope of Mount of Olives, Jerusalem
Where Jesus began his triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding a donkey's colt.
First mentioned in the Bible
“The crowds going ahead of him and those following him kept shouting: ‘Save, we pray, the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in Jehovah’s name! Save him, we pray, in the heights above!’”— Matthew 21:9
Background
Bethphage was a small village on the eastern slope of the Mount of Olives, between Bethany and Jerusalem. On Nisan 9, Jesus sent two disciples to Bethphage to fetch a donkey's colt. He then rode it down the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem. The crowds spread their garments and palm branches on the road, shouting 'Save, we pray, the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in Jehovah's name!' (Matthew 21:1-9). This fulfilled Zechariah's prophecy (Zechariah 9:9).
