Background
Dothan lies in northern Samaria. Joseph was sent to find his brothers here but was stripped of his coat, cast into a pit, and sold to Ishmaelite traders bound for Egypt. Centuries later, the king of Aram surrounded Dothan to capture Elisha; after Elisha prayed, his servant saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire.
