In her sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin promised in marriage to a man named Joseph of David’s house, and the name of the virgin was Mary.— Luke 1:26-27
Background
Nazareth was an unremarkable town in the hills of Galilee. Here the angel Gabriel announced Jesus' birth to Mary. Jesus grew up here, living some thirty years in a carpenter's household. In the Nazareth synagogue he read from Isaiah and proclaimed the year of the Lord's favor, yet was rejected by his own townspeople.
