Hazor

Hazor · Tel Hazor, Israel
Largest Canaanite city-state; conquered and burned by Joshua, rebuilt by Solomon.
First mentioned in the Bible
“Joshua turned back and captured Hazor and struck its king with the sword, for Hazor had been the head of all these kingdoms. They struck everyone in it with the sword and burned Hazor with fire.”— Joshua 11:10-11
Background
Hazor was the largest and most powerful Canaanite city-state. Joshua defeated King Jabin of Hazor and burned the city—the only Canaanite city he burned. Solomon later rebuilt it as a northern fortress (1 Kings 9:15).
Related Scriptures (New World Translation)
Moreover, Joshua then returned and captured Haʹzor and struck down its king with the sword, because Haʹzor had formerly been the head of all these kingdoms.
